15. Magik

Illyana “Magik”  Rasputin has had a terrible life. That can be said for most of the X-Men, but for Illyana it was different. She literally spent time in Hell and was beaten by her captor Belasco. There was a time where she died only to be brought back by the devil that beat her. She was also missing part of her soul.

There aren’t a lot of X-Men that can say a third of this has happened. Any of these things on their own would be enough to drive them crazy. All of them together are more than a couple of lifetimes worth of pain.

Over the last 10 years, Illyana’s life hasn’t gotten much better. She tricked her brother into taking the power of the Juggernaut. Because of that, he stopped trusting her for a while. Later, she was possessed by the Phoenix and did things that were out of her character. Despite all of that happening, Illyana managed to continue being a hero. At one point, she hid the X-Men in Limbo so they wouldn’t be killed by the Terrigen Mist.

Since Hickman’s run of Powers X and House of X, Illyana has continued to be an amazing character. In fact, she’s one of the best characters that people don’t know about. Hopefully, when the New Mutants movie comes out, people will see how incredible she is.
