10 must-read comic books for the return of Marvel Comics
By Mark Lynch
9. Marauders
Writer: Gerry Duggan
Marauders is hands down the comic book this writer misses the most.
Kitty Pryde has become the most intriguing X-Men character of the last 10 years. She’s elevated herself from just being another member of the team to a leader; leading her own roster and leading mutants in general while Cyclops was dead. She has continued to evolve, now saving mutants around the world. She’s not only in charge of her team, Kitty is also on the Quiet Council of Krakoa – a group of mutants charged with making laws that affect mutants now and will continue to do so in the future.
Along with Kitty Pryde, you have Storm who remains her amazing goddess self, Iceman who coming into his own with his powers and being a gay mutant who no longer hides who he is, Bishop who’s, well, Bishop: the gun toting tough-guy who seems to always have a plan of attack and can be a leader in the field. Then there’s the former Brother of Evil Mutants member Pyro. He adds a lot of color and levity to the team and it’s surprising that he’s been a reliable member.
Gerry Duggan has made this book both a fun and interesting read, so it’s definitely worth checking out. Furthermore, this is also one that recently left readers with a heck of a cliffhanger.
