6. Captain Marvel

Writer: Kelly Thompson

This is a classic case of catching on right on time. Admittedly, this writer isn’t a huge fan of Captain Marvel. However, he loves Kelly Thompson’s writing. With two full Captain Marvel trades out, it seemed like the perfect time to get into the series. Not only was it a great choice, it became a must-read.

Captain Marvel is an ultra powerful character and, because of that, it makes it difficult to find villains that can match her power. Kelly Thompson not only did that, but also made you really detest one of them. She took Mahkizmo the Nuclear Man and made him deplorable. He was a sexist, narcissist and you couldn’t wait to see Carol Danvers punch him in the mouth.

One other thing Kelly Thompson did was make Captain Marvel even more relatable than ever before. making her all the more lovable in the process. You could understand the pain she was going through as she was hated for being half-Kree, had her name run through the mud, and had to hurt her friends to save hundreds if not millions of lives.

Sometimes overly powerful characters can be boring because they lack flaws. Not Captain Marvel. She and everyone else in this book are fun, well-developed and important to the plot. It was also cool that Hazmat was added to the series as well. She’s another fun character that could make a great addition to the MCU one day.
