3. Avengers

Writer: Jason Aaron

Jason Aaron is a personal favorite when it comes to comic book writers. If he’s writing something, it’s certainly a must-read.

Towards the end of his iconic run of Thor, he started writing Earth’s Mightiest Heroes: The Avengers. Like Brian Michael Bendis with the New Avengers, this team consists of classic Avengers (in this case, Captain America, Black Panther, Thor, and Iron Man) and some odd selections.

First up is Jennifer Walters. While she was an Avenger before, she’s not the same as before. This time, Jennifer doesn’t keep her intelligence when she turns into the Hulk. This makes her more like her cousin than ever. She also has a new power: The ability to release some of her gamma energy into an explosive blast. There’s the new Ghost Rider Robbie Reyes. Instead of a motorcycle, Robbie is driving a muscle car that’s more than it appears to be. And rounding out the team is the Daywalker Blade. Blade was brought in to help with a vampire problem involving a new deadly group of vamps and Dracula himself. He’s remained on the ever since.

So far, this roster has defeated Celestials, gone up against a powered up Namor, The Brood, and Malekith’s army. They’re also battling Mephisto who’s up to more than we’ve seen. The next series is called Age of Khonshu. That means we’ll be getting Moon Knight and it looks like this former Avenger isn’t on their side either.
