The latest episode of Harley Quinn season 2 sees Harley and Ivy face the consequences of their actions at the Pena Duro North Correctional and Rehabilitation Facility.

Previously, on Harley Quinn season 2, we got a look at the first time Harley met both The Joker and Poison Ivy.

It was very similar to the story that was told in Batman the Animated Series (and in subsequent comic books): She was the psychiatrist who fell in love with Joker’s magnetic personality and charisma. Harley and Ivy became friends after the former did something nice for Ivy. Ivy then returned the favor by saving Harley’s life.

The flashback started because Harley and Ivy saw that The Joker was still alive and had no memory of who he was. He had even become a family man. And as a result, they decided to let him live since he’s not a murderous clown anymore. The episode then ended with Harley and Ivy being captured by Two-Face.

Commissioner Gordon update! While he wasn’t in the previous episode, he’s probably happy that Kimmy Schmidt has an interactive movie being released on Netflix.

“All rise for meeee!”

This week’s episode, “There’s No Place To Go But Down”, starts with an immediate laugh. The theme music is similar to Law and Order, which makes sense considering Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy are on trial against Two-Face for the murder of Penguin and plotting to kill the entire Injustice League. And who’s the judge? Bane of course. The good news is, Bane is unbiased. Seriously, he is. So, to balance it out, Two-Face made Man-Bat the lawyer for Harley and Ivy. Who knows, maybe this will work out well for Harley and Ivy? Okay, they have no chance at all.

You couldn’t expect anything but shenanigans from this. As fair as Bane was, it wouldn’t have mattered. Even though we knew this was inevitable, the scene was still funny. Man-Bat screaming in bat-speak (if that’s even a thing) but actually making sense in the captions was a nice touch.

However, Bane being as the judge was the best part about this. His shocked responses made the scene so good. When he sentenced them to life, he just had to say it was in prison as if we didn’t know what he meant. Why? Because he’s Bane.

Did Gordon just put mayo in his whiskey?

Jim Gordon and Batgirl (who’s really Barbara Gordon) went into the sewers to try and capture Ratcatcher, but it didn’t go as planned. Gordon being drunk and stopped them from executing their plan. Later, back at home, Gordon and Barbara were eating dinner. Barbara decided to have a talk with her father about his drinking, but the commissioner didn’t see the problem. Before they could finish the discussion, Two-Face and his goons showed up to kill him. In the end, Batgirl saved her father and revealed that she was Batgirl.

A great moment that was worth waiting for. Barbara admits that while her costume is based off of Batman, her father is her inspiration. This gave Gordon what he needed to get off his hump.

Not everything in Harley Quinn has to be goofy. This was a prime example of this. A break from the silliness was needed… and this is a very silly episode.

Pena Duro North Correctional and Rehabilitation Facility (or The Pit)

You’d assume that the Pena Duro North Correctional and Rehabilitation Facility would be all about death and destruction. You’d be wrong. Bane has a system designed to help the prisoners of The Pit (chief among them, make sure your bed is made).

Killer Croc is working on his rage with painting. He painted a very good picture of a bunch of crocodiles eating a guy. So, as you can see, the art therapy is working. The pit even helped Victor Zsasz. But, shockingly, Harley and Ivy didn’t think this was going to help them at all. Their plan to escape involved George Lopez, a helicopter, and stand-up comedy. The creators deserve a medal for this part alone.

There really isn’t much to say except that this flawless episode. We laughed, cried, and stand up and applauded for the return of one of Gotham’s greatest protectors. The MVP of this show would normally go to Bane. However, Jim Gordon takes it this time. He overcame all of his insecurities to help be the man we knew he was. It’ll be exciting to see what happens next week.

Quotes and Questions about Quinn:

  • It looks like Gordon is back. Will he continue to be a drunk or will he be as helpful as we know he’s capable of being?
  • Am I the only person who loves that Bane’s facility actually helped? Bane really does care.
  • Does Ivy have a career in comedy? Maybe? Probably not
  • Gordon taking the police department back was incredible. We forgot how good he really is.
  • Is Bane dead? We didn’t see a body, so probably not.
  • The last 10 seconds of the episode produces something we’ve all been waiting for. That is all.
