3. Commissioner Gordon: Gotham City’s Soul

Commissioner Gordon has seen the worst Gotham City has to offer. He’s been shot, stabbed, tortured and seen the city he protects become victims of horrific actions by evil men and women. Somehow, Gordon still manages to keep hope alive.

One of the most determined characters in comic book history, he never quits no matter how bad things get. A quality that continues to make him the heart and soul of Gotham. Sure, Batman is the city’s protector. However, James Gordon is the one who’s in the center of things. He works with corruption that goes all the way up to the mayor and back. He has also had to tread carefully in his own department because some of the people in Gotham PD take money from criminals. Batman doesn’t have to deal with some of the things Gordon does. That is what makes Gordon the heart of the city.

This could be the deepest of the comic book documentaries. There’s the story of him working his way up through the ranks to become commissioner, overturning corruption on the way up. How he started to trust Batman. The times he’s had to stare in the eyes of the most dangerous beings in the world and not blink. Then, there’s the worst thing that happened to him. Joker paralyzed his daughter Barbara Gordon (Batgirl) and did unspeakable things to her.

This is only some of the things that would be brought up. Do you think Batman, Nightwing, or Batgirl would take the time to comment?
