Batwoman: 5 ways to explain Kate Kane’s recasting in-show

Solution 2: A Lazarus Pit
Similar to the previous “solution,” this scenario would require the use of that classic “dead never stays dead” MacGuffin from Batman lore, the Lazarus Pit. Now can I already hear you Arrowverse fans shouting, “But there aren’t any Lazarus Pits left on Earth-Prime! You can only find them on a parallel Earth.” Well, there you go. Team Batwoman now has an excuse to take a trip to another Earth. Or, if the series wants to keep things local, have a new Lazarus Pit be discovered. Talia Al Ghul (Lexa Doig) could even show up and say to Team Batwoman, “I know how to help your friend as a favor for Bruce,” thus firmly establishing a history between her and Batman.
“But wait,” I can imagine you saying, “The Lazarus Pits only bring a person back to life. They don’t make them look like a completely different person.” To which I would respond with, “How do you know?” Even though the Arrowverse is based off of the DC Universe, it’s also gone in widely different directions than the comics. Perhaps a new Lazarus Pit, along with given a resurrected person temporary insanity, also literally gives them a new body? Maybe, under this scenario, Kate’s injuries are so severe that the regeneration process alters her skeletal and facial structure.
Admittedly, this would be more than a little ridiculous. But it would also fit within the confines of what the Arrowverse itself established. Speaking of which…
