Harley Quinn season 2, episode 9 review: The Cob Squad party on Themyscira
By Mark Lynch
Harley and Poison Ivy have an emotional rollercoaster of a weekend in the latest episode of Harley Quinn season 2.
Previously on DC Universe‘s Harley Quinn season 2, Harley was dealing with her feelings for Poison Ivy (like any of us would) by visiting Apokolips and killing Granny Goodness so Darkseid would give her an army of parademons to kill Commissioner Gordon (well, maybe not how we’d all do it… but it’s a way nonetheless.)
In the end, Harley decided to not tell Ivy how she felt. Instead, Harley told Ivy that she was planning Ivy’s bachelorette party.
Also, Dr. Psycho left the gang because Harley stopped massacring Gotham citizens with parademons. Not shocking. He didn’t fit the crew anyway. We all know he’ll come crawling back eventually.
In the meantime, however, here’s everything that went down in the latest episode of the DC Universe series, “Bachelorette”.
The invisible jet of hidden feelings
The episode starts with Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Mrs. Fries, a random friend of Ivy’s, and Catwoman on an invisible plane on their way to Themyscira for Ivy’s bachelorette Party. Harley is acting as if she’s okay with Ivy getting married (which she isn’t). We have our first awkward moment when the pair hug. Harley sniffed Ivy in a very loving way. They both look at each other awkwardly and move on.
Let’s see. Ivy, Harley, and Catwoman on their way to Themyscira. What could possibly go wrong? Most likely everything…. especially considering people involved.
It’s hilarious that of all the places in the world, Harley chose Themyscira. You know, since they’re international supervillains and all. Let’s see what shenanigans they get into.
“I’m a land shark now.”
On the flip side, Clayface, Frank the Plant, and King Shark are at sea for Kite Man’s bachelor party. Hell yeah! Everything is going well until a lobster with a very familiar Disney accent shows up. He tells King Shark that he must return to his kingdom and get married to his betrothed. King Shark begrudgingly agrees and the two embark on a journey back to King Shark’s Kingdom.
When King Shark gets home, he finds out she doesn’t want to get married either. King Shark stands up to his dad and tells him he doesn’t want to get married.
There’s so much to say about this. However, some things are better left unsaid. What can be mentioned is that the Harley Quinn creative team went all in on the talking lobster schtick. Complete with a song on the benefits of living in the ocean. Fun fact, it’s disgusting and very true.
The Cob Squad!
Harley Quinn, Ivy, and the rest of the party have a blast. They go to a strip club on an island and really let loose. The next morning, Harley and Ivy wake up naked and in the same bed. They didn’t just kiss this time. Ivy regrets cheating on Kite Man. However, you can tell she enjoyed it her night of passion with Harley. Ivy wants to leave, but Harley talks her into staying for the best part of the trip. They’re going to kill the people on the island trying to destroy natural resources. Obviously, Ivy is excited.
We all knew this was going to happen. Harley and Ivy were drunk and slept together (according to Harley, they did it four times in the night). Harley went all in on her love for Ivy.
Towards the end of the episode, Harley and Ivy have a heart-to-heart. They talk about their feelings and Harley asks Ivy to be with her. In the end, however, Ivy chooses Kite Man. Ivy said while she trusts Harley with her life, she doesn’t trust her with her heart.
As fun as “Bachelorette” was, the ending leads to a lot of emotions. Harley finally expressed her feelings towards Ivy and was rejected because, as much as Ivy loves her, she can’t help but wonder if Harley will leave her. The episode ends with Harley crying outside of the invisible jet.
