Luke Wilson – Stargirl

In Stargirl‘s brief run thus far, Pat Dugan has been a constant source of wholesome humor for the show. That really is no coincidence because actor Luke Wilson is a comedy veteran and he really does nail all of the character’s charms and quirks. That being said, this week’s installment of Stargirl gave him the chance to do something a little different.

With Pat concerned for the safety of stepdaughter Courtney (who was only just beginning to enjoy the idea of the superhero life), stepson Mike and wife Barbara (who had been threatened by Brainwave), he attempted to suit up as S.T.R.I.P.E. the robot in the hopes of defeating Brainwave.

Knowing full well that he probably wouldn’t return, Pat solemnly and selflessly put his life on the life for those he loved. And even though Stargirl ultimately saved her stepfather, that didn’t stop Wilson from nailing the dramatic performance.

As Pat exited his house with one last look back at Courtney, it was hard not to feel yourself tearing up – and that all had to do with just how powerful Wilson’s performance was here. One might even go so far as to say that it was the finest performance of his legendary career. There was no humour or jokes this time, just a lot of heart – and this powerhouse turn has us all excited for what he’s going to deliver next.
