What this comic book character showed us: Being the personification of this list

Black Panther is everything on this list and then some. T’Challa has been disproving the negative stereotypes of masculinity since his conception.

He’s always been for the rights of women. At no point has he treated the women of his country like objects nor has he seen them any differently. The Dora Milaje used to be looked at as wives in training… and they were teenagers. T’Challa stopped that trend immediately because he doesn’t believe women should be held down. He lifts them up and praises all of their successes.

T’Challa has never shied away from being vulnerable either. We’ve seen him admit his mistakes to everyone when he knows he’s wrong. Even opting to try new things when they are presented to him. He’s never been afraid to publicly show his feelings for the women he loves either, always making sure that they know they’re appreciated.

All of these reasons (and so many more) are why T’Challa is among the most respected and trusted heroes in the Marvel comic book universe. Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, and a plethora of others have come to him for help and his council.

With all of his skill, power, and wealth, T’Challa could be a tyrant. Instead, he shows what it is to be a man. You can be tough but in touch with your feelings and firm in your beliefs yet flexible when you notice you’re in the wrong. Things that we, as men, should strive to be.
