2. Mr. Freeze

Much like Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze could benefit for a more serious portrayal in movie lore. No offense to Arnie or his ice puns, but Freeze’s origins at its core are practically that of a Shakespearean tragedy.

Truth be told, Joel Schumacher was on a decent track in portraying the turmoil and pain Freeze encompasses as a character and it had potential to be a truly heartbreaking origin story – especially when you consider that its source material was the incredible Batman: The Animated Series. But alas, ice puns and Bat credit cards had to come first before anything close to emotional depth could suffice.

Matt Reeves has proven in past films like the modern Planet of the Apes franchise and Let Me In that he is capable of producing the melancholy necessary to emulate Freeze as a character. A man ice cold at his heart, but wielding a tragic backstory that almost justifies his pain.

Even without showcasing that backstory onscreen (which would be a big missed opportunity), Reeves has what it takes to create the aura surrounding the character that makes him brooding, sympathetic, and frightening all at once.

At the moment, there is no better man suited in the director’s chair to give Mr. Freeze a second round on celluloid than Matt Reeves and he should do so the first chance that he gets with The Batman.
