Two iconic DC Comics villains showed up in this week’s episode of Stargirl. Spoilers for Stargirl season 1, episode 6 follow.

DC Universe‘s Stargirl has been charting the rise of a new team of heroes as Courtney Whitmore has made it her mission to form a new generation of the Justice Society of America so that they can combat the evil of the Injustice Society – many of whom have resurfaced in Blue Valley.

While we’ve already seen the likes of Brainwave, Solomon Grundy and Icicle make their presences felt on the show, this week’s installment, “The Justice Society”, saw the arrival of two more DC Comics villains as Sportsmaster and Tigress showed up.

Portrayed by Neil Hopkins and Joy Osmanski, Larry “Crusher” Crock and Paula Brooks have shown up on the show in a limited capacity thus far. The former is the strangely humorous owner of a gym called “Ripped City” while the latter is a gym teacher at Blue Valley High.

In the latest episode of Stargirl, the pair are angered when the coach benches their daughter Artemis and, as a result, kill him. The third coach they’ve slain in a matter of months, their actions draw the ire of Icicle and Fiddler – the latter of whom had to hire another coach at her school. This forces Icicle to assign them to a mission, allowing them to channel their hot-headed actions into the ISA’s bidding.

Sportsmaster and Tigress reemerge to obtain information for the Injustice Society but, in doing so, end up squaring off against Stargirl and the JSA. Though the kids hold their own, the villains get the better of the fight… that is, until Courtney’s staff returns to life and Pat makes a triumphant arrival with the S.T.R.I.P.E. robot.

This marked the live-action debut of both Sportsmaster and the Paula Brooks iteration of Tigress (an original version was previously a regular part of Fox’s Gotham).
