Director Patty Jenkins revealed in a new interview that she’s putting work on Wonder Woman 3 on hold till the pandemic is over.

Now that the release date of Wonder Woman 1984 has been pushed back to Fall 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic, director Patty Jenkins has a lot on her mind regarding the future of her DC Extended Universe franchise.

Despite having story ideas for the threequel, Jenkins revealed in an interview with Total Film (via Batman-News) that she is not proceeding with work on Wonder Woman 3.

Jenkins has plans to create a spin-off about the Amazons, which she hopes to release before the third film. However, she has ‘paused’ work on the third instalment of Wonder Woman as she feels the plotline was indicative of the creative team’s thinking from several months ago. The world has changed since then and Jenkins wants to absorb what’s happening before proceeding with the plot of the film.

From the interview, it appears that Jenkins wants the upcoming Wonder Woman films to reflect the real world’s struggle with the global pandemic. This may or not impact the final story, but she wants the story to be ‘influenced’ by the current situation. Jenkins had previously indicated that the third film would be set in present-day – as opposed to the first two Diana Prince films which take place in the past. Since the Amazon warrior was seen charging through No Man’s Land in 2017’s Wonder Woman, it’s no wonder that Jenkins is looking for ways to incorporate the pandemic into her story.

The director also hinted at the possibility that she may not be helming either of the films; though she may be attempting to be more pragmatic about the state of the world.

Jenkins took the world by storm by becoming the first female director to direct a big budget comic book adaptation in 2017 and fans are excited about the sequel.
