Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor

During Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, my wife said something that I’ll never forget. She said that Jesse Eisenberg reminded her more of the Mad Hatter than Lex Luthor. She was 100% right and it’ll never be unseen (you’re welcome).

The way he ran around and did creepy things like putting his finger in mouths was intriguing, but it was nothing like Lex Luthor from the comic books. Granted, this is an alternate reality. We should be able to accept that his personality would differ from the Lex we’re used to seeing. That said, it doesn’t make it right. That isn’t the Lex Luthor that Henry Cavill’s Superman deserved.

Jesse Eisenberg is an multi-award-nominated and winning actor. He can play both serious and goofy roles to perfection. He probably would have been able to play Lex Luthor the way we know him too – he came very close to doing that in his Justice League post-credits cameo. Although, he still would have been wasted.

Eisenberg should have been saved to play The Mad Hatter, The Riddler, or even Kite Man (Hell yeah). Could this still happen? Absolutely. The reason it may not is because of his role in Batman v Superman. We won’t be able to unsee him sticking Jolly Ranchers in people’s mouths. It will remain a disturbing image. If the Mad Hatter did it, we’d just laugh. We’d still be creeped out, but at least it would make more sense.
