Malekith

In the comics, Thor’s villains are haphazard. You can look at Loki and see a goofy trickster that may be sympathetic to some readers. There’s the unstoppable brutes like Mangog who don’t offer much banter. Then you have Malekith.

In the comic books, Malekith has a jovial, yet demented sense of humor. He’s also a genius when it comes to strategy. If you’re new to this character, then you’re probably wondering where all of that was in Thor: Dark World. Fun fact, this writer is wondering that as well.

Malektih was boring, below average, and not appealing at all. Even his look was dull. There was no focus on him as a character. All we knew is that he wanted to take the Aether and make everything dark again. That’s boring. Every dime store villain wants to remake the world in their image. At least the greats do so for a real reason (for example, Dr. Doom truly believes that he can save the world from itself). Malekith’s story was typical and unimaginable. It becomes even more apparent after reading the events that led and concluded with The War of the Realms.

The War of the Realms showed Malekith do something that should have been impossible. He  united the worst of the worst in the ten realms to conquer everything. Something that seemed impossible. We could have gotten something intriguing like that on the big screen… instead, Malekith was just another forgettable bad guy.
