Former Arrow showrunner Marc Guggenheim has offered a huge update about the fate of potential Arrowverse spinoff Green Arrow and The Canaries.

Green Arrow and The Canaries aired its backdoor pilot back in January. The ninth installment of Arrow‘s final season, it aired on The CW the week after crossover Crisis On Infinite Earths and gave fans a glimpse of what the post-Crisis future of the Arrowverse looks like.

The episode was a resounding success as it received highly positive reviews and even saw Arrow hit season-high viewing figures (crossover-aside), but we’ve yet to hear whether the show has been picked up by The CW.

However, former Arrow showunner Marc Guggenheim gave fans an update on the progress of the potential series, responding to a fan who reached out to him on Twitter, revealing that the network will be reaching a decision very soon.

The CW’s Arrowverse shows have been up in the air as of late because of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus – which resulted in almost all of the current shows being forced to shorten their seasons – and, as a result, none of them will return until 2021.

However, in spite of the fact that The CW didn’t announce the fate of Green Arrow and The Canaries, network chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz revealed that both it and The 100‘s prequel Earthborn are still “very much alive”.

Green Arrow and The Canaries stars Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy  – all of whom reprise their Arrow roles as Mia Queen/Green Arrow, Laurel Lance/Black Canary/Black Siren and Dinah Drake/Black Canary respectively. It follows the trio of heroes after the latter two show up in 2040 and Laurel reveals that Star City is in danger for the first time in 20 years.

Laurel and Dinah re-team as the Black Canaries before recruiting the daughter of the original Green Arrow (Oliver Queen) to join them in their mission to save the city.
