Anthony Mackie has revealed what fans can expect from Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier when it hits Disney Plus.

Marvel Studios’ line-up of Marvel Cinematic Universe films will continue to grow, with Black Widow due for release later this year (after a forced reschedule). However, with Phase Four upon us, the studio is producing a number of direct spin-off TV shows for streaming service Disney Plus – and one of them is the highly-anticipated The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan – both of whom are reprising their MCU roles as Sam Wilson/Falcon and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier – the show will follow two of the most beloved Marvel characters as they re-team and attempt to carry on the legacy of their dear friend Steve Rogers/Captain America.

Mackie recently spoke to Daveed Diggs for Variety as part of their Actors on Actors issue about what fans can expect from the upcoming series and revealed that filming it (prior to the shutdown of production) wasn’t all that different to making the MCU movies. He added:

"“We’re shooting it exactly like a movie… Everybody who had worked on TV before was like, ‘I’ve never worked on a TV show like this.’ The way in which we were shooting, it feels exactly like we were shooting the movie cut up into the show. So instead of a two-hour movie, a six or eight-hour movie.”"

A six/eight-hour movie sounds like an incredible feat, and knowing Marvel, they’ll have no problem pulling it off. The show’s budget is a whopping $150 million (which is essentially unheard of for television), so you can rest assured that we will be seeing some high-level production values when The Falcon and The Winter Soldier hits screens.

Mackie also talked about the lockdown due to the novel coronavirus, revealing that they were in Europe when everything was shut down, adding that they will hopefully be resuming production soon.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will see Mackie’s character attempt to carry on Steve’s legacy, using the iconic shield that Cap handed him in the end of Avengers: Endgame before ultimately taking on the mantle of Captain America.
