Stargirl: What will happen if Mike and Barbara discover Pat and Courtney’s secret?

Stargirl and S.T.R.I.P.E. have become quite the heroic duo, but there are two people who aren’t in on the secret: Mike, Pat’s son and Barbara, Courtney’s mother.

We cannot help but LOVE Stargirl! Airing on DC Universe and The CW, the series centres on Courtney Whitmore and her journey to become a hero alongside her stepfather Pat Dugan. It’s got all the fun bits and isn’t at all messy… or it is?

While we kid, we need to look at the situation Pat (Luke Wilson) and Courtney (Brec Bassinger) have found themselves in. With Stargirl severely injured during her fight with Shiv (Meg DeLacy), her stepfather wants to tell her mother, Barbara (Amy Smart) about their massive JSA secret.

That’s not all, Mike (Trae Romano) is jealous of all the time his stepsister is spending with his dad. That’s not all! Barbara is far from happy with her husband for not talking to her about teaching Courtney to ‘drive’. With what has gone down in ‘Shiv Part One’, the superhero duo are going to struggle to keep the incident quiet.

From promo images for the next episode, ‘Shiv Part Two’, Courtney wakes up in the hospital with Pat at her side. Now, this whole situation could go a couple of different ways. The first is that Mike finds out as his dad has disappeared to find his stepsister.

The second is news gets back to Barbara and she is forced to cut her overnight business trip with Jordan (Neil Jackson) short. So far, Courtney and Pat were able to cover their tracks when they fought Brainwave by claiming they fell down the basement stairs.

However, they’re not going to be able to hide Courtney’s severe injuries, especially if Beth’s there where she’s bound to blurt something out that she shouldn’t. So, what might happen if Barbara and/or Mike discover the JSA secret?

Understanding but disappointed – perhaps honorary members of the JSA

Family is meant to be about trust and Mike and Barbara might take the news better than Courtney and Pat think they will. However, there’s bound to be a bit of disappointment to go around too. We already know the younger Dugan is jealous of all the time his stepsister spends with his father. Though, he’ll probably be excited that his dad was one-half of a superhero team. But there’s a chance he won’t even know who the original Justice Society were as he didn’t even know what Atari was.

Barbara, on the other hand, might understand as the safety of the town she grew up is vital to everything she is working for at the American Dream. However, she won’t be happy to learn that her husband and daughter have kept such a huge secret from her, especially their involvement with the JSA. Though, she would probably come around and be supportive if they explained why they hid the truth from her.

Not at all supportive of Stargirl and S.T.R.I.P.E.

What are the odds that Mike and Barbara won’t be at all supportive of Courtney and Pat’s superhero escapades? There’s a likelihood, but whether we believe it is slim at best.

What are the chances that the older Whitmore actually sides with Jordan? Slim, but given the obvious chemistry between them, there might be a chance that if Barbara doesn’t support Courtney and Pat, she might voice her frustrations to her new friend and she might let slip that her daughter is Stargirl and her husband is S.T.R.I.P.E. However, that leaves Mike and what might happen with him.

We know how upset he is at how close Courtney and Pat have become and that he feels left out. If he learns of who they are, he might see it as a massive betrayal as they didn’t trust him enough to tell him what they were doing. The same can be said for Barbara. However, it might be a massive reversal and they’re both really supportive.

For all we know, it might play out like the situation did on The Flash where Joe wasn’t supportive of Barry’s heroics at first, but came around but only to tell him that Iris can never know. We all remember how well that went down.

Conclusion

Whatever the case might be with Barbara and Mike, they’re going to find out eventually. We hope they’re supportive otherwise it would only drag the story out and make it awkward for the Whitmore-Dugan household. Geoff Johns is an incredible storyteller and we can’t wait to see how this whole story plays out next.

We hope there’s no hostility between them because Barbara and Mike would be be great honorary members of the JSA.
