DC’s Stargirl has officially been renewed for a second season, but there’s a huge twist: It’s going to be exclusive to The CW.

Stargirl has been nothing short of a superhero gem over the past seven weeks, entertaining DC fans on both the DC Universe and The CW. And that hard work to entertain fans has paid off as the beloved series has officially been renewed for a second season!

However, with that good news comes an unexpected twist. As revealed by TVLine, the second season of Stargirl will be exclusive to The CW, with no apparent plans of it dropping on DC Universe in the future.

What does this mean for Stargirl?

The great news is that it means the show will return for a second season. The DC Universe original has received overwhelmingly positive reviews since its debut, with new episodes dropping on the streamer every Monday morning. That said, it reached a much wider audience via its weekly broadcast on The CW the following night.

More from Arrowverse

With that in mind, it’s not all that surprising that the show is moving to The CW. The network is, after all, the home of the Arrowverse shows and, in spite of each episode having dropped a day prior, it has been bringing in on average 1 million viewers to the network each week – something that is unheard of for the summer months.

It’s unfortunate that the show seemingly won’t be returning to the DC Universe next season when it was clearly one of the streaming service’s greatest originals. But finding a permanent home at The CW seemed like the right idea for the Geoff Johns series because, all said and done, that network has embraced it – and, as a result, so have Arrowverse fans. This could make that crossover all the more likely.

Nevertheless, welcome back, Stargirl!
