It is not just important for someone playing The Joker to be the perfect actor, but they also must have the perfect face. It is essential for us to see The Joker’s animated facial expressions resonate strongly beneath layers of makeup. Not every actor – no matter how good they are – is capable of having such a face, but one of the few actors who could fit such a billing is James Ransone.

Many readers may not recognize James Ransone by name, but he certainly has an impressive resume as a “that guy” actor. Readers may have seen his face in Sinister, Tangerine, The Wire and most recently, IT: Chapter Two.

The way that Ransone tends to exaggerate his facial expressions in most of his performances and the practically inhuman way in which he twists his mouth at every audible tells us that those same expressions would not look too out of place underneath layers of white face paint and a ghoulish smile. Plus, his tall and slender body fits the billing as well.

You might that that Ransone may be a little older (at age 41) to tango with a 34-year-old Robert Pattinson, but let’s not forget that Joaquin Phoenix just won an Oscar for playing The Joker at 45-years old (in a film in which Bruce Wayne is still a child), so maybe age doesn’t matter after all.

Ransone would be perfect.
