Stargirl season 1, episode 9 contained a huge unexpected nod to the Arrowverse. Did you notice it?

Stargirl has been an enjoyable new addition to The CW’s line-up this season, but even though it will be making the network its official home next season, it’s still primarily a DC Universe original show.

That means it’s set in a separate universe from the rest of the network’s superhero shows – the universe known as the Arrowverse. This was established earlier this year in the aftermath of the groundbreaking Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover as the Arrowverse shows (all of which now take place on the newly-established Earth-Prime) revealed that Stargirl is set on the new Earth-2.

That didn’t, however, stop the latest episode of the newcomer series from making reference to the hero that started it all, as it features an image of Green Arrow and Speedy.

How do the Green Arrow and Speedy exist in Stargirl?

Green Arrow and Speedy appeared in a photograph that Pat Dugan (Luke Wilson) showed Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) as he revealed that he and Sylvester Pemberton/Starman (Joel McHale) were part of another team before they joined the Justice Society of America.

According to Pat, he and Sylvester were once part of the Seven Soldiers of Victory – a team that featured the likes of Vigilante, Crimson Avenger and Wing. The eight heroes battled and defeated Dr. Ito/Dragon King (Nelson Lee) when he attempted to eradicate New York. Though Courtney only made reference to the Green Arrow as Robin Hood, Pat never clarified his name – even though it was clearly the Emerald Archer.

DC Comics fans will know that the Arrowverse was started in 2012 by Arrow and the Green Arrow/Oliver Queen was played by Stephen Amell. There were then two versions of the Roy Harper/Speedy character as Colton Haynes portrayed Harper’s Arsenal persona while Willa Holland portrayed Thea Queen/Speedy.

Do you think we’ll see the new Earth-2’s versions of the iconic archers on Stargirl?
