Doom Patrol’s Diane Guerrero wants to play Green Lantern Jessica Cruz and this should definitely happen.

Doom Patrol‘s Diane Guerrero has come a long way in a short space of time.

She played a recurring role on Orange is the New Black for quite some time. She then went on to appear in another recurring role in Jane The Virgin before playing one of the main characters in Superior Donuts. And now, she’s one of the main characters in DC Universe‘s Doom Patrol.

Each one of these characters she has portrayed have showcased her range – especially Doom Patrol in which she portrays a character (Crazy Jane) with multiple personalities.

However, it looks like Diane Guerrero isn’t going to stop with Crazy Jane, as she has her sights on another DC Comics character. She wants to play Green Lantern Jessica Cruz.

On Doom Patrol’s official Twitter Page she was asked which DC Comics character she would like to play if she wasn’t playing Crazy Jane. Well, she didn’t mince words in her response. She flat out said, “Jessica Cruz, Green Lantern! That’s my next DC character, just to put it out there…”

That was a great move. Sometimes you have to put things like this out in the open and let the people in charge know that you want the role and that you can do it.

Who is Jessica Cruz and why Doom Patrol’s Diane Guerrero should play her

Jessica Cruz is a Latin Green Lantern who begins her journey a little different from most heroes. After surviving a tragic incident where she witnessed her friends get killed, she became a shut-in.

She was too afraid to leave her house and sometimes it got so bad that she wouldn’t get out of bed. However, as time went on, she overcame that fear. She went on to travel in time to teach the first Green Lanterns to use their powers and also helped save the universe.

Jessica Cruz could very well be one of the best Green Lanterns we’ve ever seen in the comics. Her journey from being afraid to having great willpower is a triumphant story. And Diane Guerrero playing her would be a major step in the right direction in terms of bringing her to the big or small screens.

Diane Guerrero seems like a perfect fit for Jessica Cruz. In Orange is the New Black, we’ve seen her play scared when she was worried about being deported. In Superior Donuts, she plays a smart-alec: A quality Jessica Cruz eventually develops with her teammate Simon Baz.

Here’s something else that makes her the perfect choice: She actually voiced Jessica Cruz in DC Animated Universe film Justice League vs the Fatal Five. So she has some experience with the character. Taking all of that into account, it’s easy to see why she would make her a smart choice for the future.

This writer is a fan of Diane Guerrero. She has a ton of charisma and strong acting skills. There’s no reason why she shouldn’t play Jessica Cruz. She’s the right age, has all the ability needed to bring the character to life, and she’s beloved by her fans. If that isn’t enough, then what is?

Don’t be surprised if we see her play the role in the future. Even if it’s not in a live-action show or film, she could still do wonders with another animated feature/series.
