With season 4 in the rear-view mirror, we’re all excited for Riverdale season 5. Here’s everything we know about it.

Riverdale season 5 will arrive on TV screens in the not-too-distant future. The show’s fourth season concluded back in May after it was cut short, but the silver lining is that it will return for more madness soon.

Season 4 was a myriad of madness that took the youthful gang and their parents to new places. Archie Andrews opened a shelter, Jughead Jones went to a corrupt prep school, Betty Cooper solved (another) mystery, Veronica Lodge started a rum business and Cheryl Blossom was sassier than ever. With the storylines getting cut-short, we now turn our attention season 5.

Below, you’ll find all the up-to-date information you need about Riverdale season 5, its premiere on The CW, its cast, any trailers and more.

Riverdale season 5 premiere date

Riverdale season 5 will premiere on January 20, 2021 in its usual Wednesday night slot at 8:00 p.m.

It would usually join the rest of The CW’s programming by premiering its new season in the first or second week of October. However, due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus causing production delays and essentially shutting all of Hollywood down temporarily, that won’t be the case this year.

Riverdale season 5 cast

Given there are no major changes between now and the beginning of production, the majority of the show’s regulars should be returning – meaning that KJ Apa, Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Madelaine Pestch, Casey Cott, Charles Melton, Vanessa Morgan, Mädchen Amick and Mark Consuelos will reprise their respective roles as Archie Andrews, Jughead Jones, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Cheryl Blossom, Kevin Keller, Reggie Mantle, Toni Topaz, Alice Cooper and Hiram Lodge.

Former regulars Marisol Nichols and Skeet Ulrich will reprise their roles as Hermione Lodge and FP Jones in a recurring capacity. It’s unknown if Ashleigh Murray will return as Josie McCoy now that  spin-off series – on which she was a regular – Katy Keene has been cancelled.

Riverdale season 5 trailer

As Riverdale hasn’t been able to resume production in Vancouver yet, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll be seeing a trailer from the show in the immediate future. Though they may have footage in the bank that was intended for the next episode of season 4 – which will now serve as the season 5 premiere – we’ll probably have to wait until at least a few weeks into production for any visual tidbits.

In previous years, the show has dropped a new trailer at San Diego Comic-Con but as that event has been cancelled this year, Riverdale won’t have a presence at it.

What is Riverdale season 5 about?

Not too much is known as of yet about Riverdale‘s upcoming fifth season. However, it will feature something of a drastic time-jump, ensuring that the twenty-something cast will no longer be portraying teenagers.

That being said, the first couple of episodes will wrap up the “Sex, Lies and Videotape” storyline from the fourth season as the gang discover who’s been watching them and if the mysterious entities really killed Mr. Honey. After that mystery is solved, the time-jump will take place – kicking off season 5’s official story.
