There’s a new rumour in hyperspace – Donald Glover may be rejoining the Star Wars universe to bring Lando Calrissian back on screen.

The Star Wars rumour mill is at it again! As per a CBR report, the Kessel Run Radio video podcast revealed that Disney Plus is looking to add to its roster of Star Wars spin-off series. This time around the rumor suggests that Donald Glover is set to reprise his role as the cavalier swindler, Lando Calrissian.

First seen on screen in the 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story, Glover has become a beloved member of the universe for many. Fans have been calling for a Lando show for as long as can be remembered, so we are on board with this rumour. Please let it be true!

Donald Glover as Lando is a favourite among Star Wars fans.

Solo: A Star Wars Story was the second entry in the non-Skywalker Star Wars anthology film series. After the runaway success of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016, the youthful exploits of the galaxy’s favourite pilot were a supposed shoo-in as a box office hit. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

Many felt the film was lacklustre and didn’t add much to the personality of Han Solo. Despite Alden Ehrenreich’s efforts to capture the charisma of Harrison Ford from the original trilogy, the film did not fair well. The one spark was Glover’s Lando. He perfectly captured Billy Dee Williams’ style, intonation and charm. His wardrobe was to die for, and Glover simply stole every scene he was part of.

Ever since Glover was cast as the younger version of Lando, fans have been vying to see more of him and his litany of capes. It doesn’t help that Disney executives revealed that Lando was pansexual, only for the film to hint that he was… in love with his female droid. That was not the representation people were looking for.

If a show featuring young Lando is greenlit, perhaps Disney can move beyond doing the bare minimum for LGBTQIA+ representation and actually give Star Wars viewers the queer representation that has been sorely lacking in all its on-screen properties.

So far, there has been no concrete confirmation of the existence of this show by Disney Plus, nor any updates from Glover himself. But most would agree that the galaxy far, far away, can certainly do with more Lando in it.
