4. Bane

On the grounds of breaking the Bat alone, literally and figuratively, Bane could have been even higher on this list. The only thing holding him back is that his character felt a little bit watered down near the end when the Talia Al Ghul twist arrived, basically positioning him as more of a sidekick to the grand scheme than the central villain we thought he was throughout the film.

However, his treatment in the third act should not nullify the overall impact and impression he gave prior to it, nor the effectively menacing performance which Tom Hardy gives throughout. The fact that Hardy was able to strike terror into our hearts despite speaking through a muffled gas mask the entire time is impressive in itself.

3. Ra’s Al Ghul

Ra’s Al Ghul does not get enough credit in the scope of how we view The Dark Knight trilogy as a whole. He may have been the Big Bad of the first movie in the trilogy but his impact goes beyond even Batman Begins.

Not only did his actions in training and fighting Batman create a domino effect for future films, but his presence is fully felt throughout the entire franchise. Even in death, his name looms over the plot of the finale heavily.
