What we need from Marvel Cinematic Universe to get Cyclops right.

Cyclops is one of the most important X-Men. He’s been around since the beginning and has seen it all. Despite mutants constantly being treated like garbage, Cyclops keeps the dream. He leads the X-Men in battle against threats to everyone – even though he knows it won’t be appreciated.

One thing that’s always been funny is the perception that Cyclops is boring. That statement is false. Informed fans know it’s far from the truth. Sure, he’s very by the book. However, he’s gone off the rails more than a few times. For example, creating X-Force. The X-Men don’t kill, so Cyclops created a new X-Force team – one that would do the things that the X-Men can’t. That’s just Cyclops in the comics. However, his movie portrayal has been poor.

Cyclops hasn’t been represented properly in the movies. He had an amazing outing in the first X-Men film and that’s where it stopped. It hasn’t been the actors’ fault either. Both James Marsden and Tye Sheridan were good. They played their roles the way it was designed. Unfortunately, it didn’t seem like he was part of the grand scheme of things. Whatever 20th Century Fox had planned, it didn’t work.

Going forward, Marvel Studios has an opportunity to do right by Cyclops when they eventually introduce him into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here are some things that we need from Cyclops going forward to make that a success.
