10 Marvel Comics movie and TV show characters with wasted potential

Ego and the missed out father
Film: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
In the Marvel comic books, Ego is a literal living planet. It has total control over itself and, after millions of years, it became sentient. It eventually developed the ability to fly throughout space and go wherever it wanted. With the exception of a handful of beings, there aren’t any that can stop it.
When Ego was announced as the villain for Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, it seemed like an incredible idea. How would the Guardians of the Galaxy defeat a living planet? We were excited about what we were going to see. Unfortunately, what we eventually received was a disappointing battle and an underused actor.
Let’s start with Ego. Sure, we find out that Peter Quill’s father is a planet, but making Ego Peter’s father took away from what could have been something special. In the comics, Star-Lord’s father J’son was one of the most powerful people in the universe. He was the emperor of Spartax and a terrible human being.
Adapting this storyline wouldn’t have taken away from Star-Lord’s origin. In fact, it definitely wouldn’t have seemed as silly as being the son of a planet.
Then there’s Kurt Russell – a great actor who could have played a meatier role had he been the praised ruler of Spartax instead.
Furthermore, J’son’s introduction could have forced Peter Quill to choose between being a king or a space pirate – a decision that could have created more opportunities for the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and Peter Quill as well.
