James Wesley

TV Show: Daredevil (season 1)

This is one of the smaller missed opportunities that could have made a much bigger splash than it actually did. James Wesley is one of maybe two people Wilson Fisk will listen to; the other being Wilson Fisk himself.

It isn’t because he fears Wesley (even though Wesley knows where all the bodies are buried), Fisk respects him. When Fisk is getting out of control, Wesley reels him back in, reminding his boss of the bigger picture; that he has so much more to accomplish. For example, when Wilson Fisk killed someone while he was mayor, Wesley was there with a plan to dispose of the body.

James Wesley died in the first season of Netflix’s Daredevil when he was killed by Karen Page. His death was repeatedly brought up as a plot device – a secret that could put her in the crosshairs of Wilson FIsk. While it was a great idea that worked out, it was also a waste in terms of the Wesley character.

Wesley’s personality was the perfect balance to Fisk’s anger and rage. There was so much more they could have accomplished in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – especially if they do end up using Fisk in the Spider-Man films.

If he was going to be killed, at least do it later in the series. Maybe the shot could have put him in a coma instead. This way he could have come back at some point.
