Dazzler

Film: Dark Phoenix

The X-Men just finished saving the day. And in outer space of all places. After helping keep astronauts alive and avoiding Jean Grey dying, it was time for a celebration. Can you blame them? You’re a teenager and you got to go to space and be a hero. This writer would certainly be ready to party. During the festivities, we see a young woman singing and creating light. It was an X-Man by the name of Dazzler. If you know who she was, you were probably a bit excited. Who knew that she was going to be in Dark Phoenix? And just as quick as she came, she was gone.

This writer will be the first to admit that there aren’t a lot of people craving for a Dazzler feature. That said, she could have added more to the movie than just a quick cameo. Her power-set is fun – something Dark Phoenix was significantly lacking in.

A lot of the movie was too serious. Having her be the disco-loving, pop song-singing, roller skating mutant could have added some much needed levity (and literal light) to the dull film. Even if she didn’t have a huge role, it would have been nice to see her shoot an alien in the face with her powers.
