The Flash by Grant Morrison & Mark Millar

This is probably the run on this list that is the least new-reader-friendly as it comes from the combined efforts of Grant Morrison and Mark Millar, two writers notorious for incorporating large ideas that might seem a bit off-putting to some readers. However, this is largely not the case here.

In their run, which goes from issues No. 130-141, they managed to tell several self-contained stories (and one crossover) that each build up the character of Wally West incredibly well.

The stories in this run are often fun and ridiculous without ever letting go of the stakes involved which is something not easy to do consistently. Whether it’s a fight with Mirror Master or a race against a being made out of pure electricity, these stories are a perfect encapsulation of just how weird Flash comics can be while never feeling out of place in the larger picture.

Beyond these five runs though, there are so many other Flash stories out there, but these are some great places to start.
