Courtney takes flight

Starting off with the first episode, it was clear from the moment Courtney first flew off with the Cosmic Staff what a joy this show would be. Seeing Courtney’s smile as she starts to get used to the staff and what she can do with it was indicative of everything that the show would become. These scenes also immediately endeared you to Brec Bassinger as Courtney and it was immediately clear as to why she was cast. She’s wonderful.

It’s also hard to talk about Courtney’s first time out with the staff without talking about her confrontation with Henry and the drive-in theater. This was yet another great primer as to what the series would become regarding its action sequences, but it was more than that. It made clear that Courtney had a heroic spirit, which made her leap to putting on the costume all the more believable.

This initial call to adventure completely sets the stage for the character and the series as a whole in the best way possible. We get to see the world through the optimistic, hopeful eyes of Courtney and that’s exactly what the show is about is about the end of the day, rising above cynicism and hoping for a better tomorrow.
