Coming toward the end of the season, and seeing Courtney and Pat’s relationship consistently growing, there was one thing that had yet to be verbalized. That was the fact that Courtney now viewed Pat as her dad. Finally, in the final episode of this season we get that when Pat is under the thrall of Brainwave. It’s a smart ploy for Courtney to appeal to Pat’s emotions to attempt to break him free of Brainwave’s control, but at the same time, if played wrong, it could ring hollow.

Luckily though, they take an extra moment to make it clear that Courtney was sincere in calling herself Pat’s daughter. It’s been clear that Pat views her as his daughter, so to have Courtney finally admit that she views him as her dad, it’s incredibly satisfying to finally see that relationship made clear.

Beyond this moment just be satisfying though, it’s the culmination of one of the big themes of the season which is about “found family.” To see Courtney finally embrace that with Pat, it’s what so much of their journey this season has been about, it’s heart-warming in all the best ways and something many can probably relate to.
