The CW’s new poster for The Flash season 7 has finally given Candice Patton’s Iris West-Allen the spotlight she deserves.

The CW has been busy releasing a host of posters for both their returning and their new Arrowverse shows. The very first of those posters, however, was for veteran series The Flash season 7 and it featured leading lady Iris West-Allen (Candice Patton) in an image that is paying homage to both her comic book counterpart and The Fastest Man Alive himself with comic book panels.

Iris has always been a prominent character on the show – one who steadily grown in The CW series – but unfortunately, she has been relegated to the background on multiple occasions.

As far as the promotional material goes, Iris hasn’t received this kind of spotlight before. Other than The Flash (and their own future daughter who was in the spotlight a couple of seasons back), none of the characters really have. So to feature Iris so prominently is a move that was both refreshing and long overdue.

Under the “Heroes Will Be Reborn” tagline, the poster showcases Patton’s Iris in a comic panel with a broken mirror in the background as well as a collage of The Flash speeding. This is, of course, a reference to Iris’ current predicament in season 6 – which is being trapped in the mirror dimension by Eva McCulloch (Efrat Dor).

Iris spent the last half of the previous season trapped in the mirror dimension with other victims, including Kamilla Hwang (Victoria Park) and Chief Singh (Patrick Sabongui), while her own doppelganger ran riot under Eva’s control to regain authority over her company McCulloch Technologies.

After Iris’ doppelganger made a noble sacrifice fighting Barry Allen aka The Flash (Grant Gustin), the impromptu finale ended with Iris strangely vanishing once she found Singh’s location within the mirror world with Kamilla. The fate of Iris is up in the air right now and, although we know that she’s clearly still alive, her whereabouts is currently unknown.

In spite of the unnerving fate in the finale, the new poster promises good things for Central City’s greatest reporter. Season 6 attempted to focus on her more by giving her a separate arc as she investigated Carver and McCulloch Tech, and it seems season 7 will continue that upward trajectory and allow her to continue shining.

Yes, Iris should have more of a chance in the largely anticipated seventh season to rightfully serve a more active role doing what she does best: Investigative reporting. And more Iris is long overdue.
