Harlan Returns… As A Villain

If one thing should be guaranteed for the third season, it is that Harlan is going to return. The season 2 finale suggested he still kept some of Vanya’s power. In 2019, that would mean that we’d be seeing an adult version of Harlan who may or may not have had his mom’s help to hone and perfect his powers. If not, perhaps Reggie’s help. Harlan did hold a toy sparrow in his hand during the finale’s final moments, after all.

But the question is what does he do with those abilities in 2019? The most logical and interesting proposition would be to see Harlan emerge as the season’s new villain.

Flashing back to the season 2 finale for a second, right before going to spray away the whole team with an AK-47, The Handler was talking to Harlan. Then she just … leaves. For as far as she came and as hard as she fought/planned to recruit Harlan as one of her own (just like she did with Lila all those years ago), it doesn’t make sense for her to walk away from her objective empty handed. Unless this was all a part of the plan.

Perhaps in either expecting or preparing for her death, she did something to Harlan – influenced him, planted ideas in his head, etc. Whatever that something may be. That something may have convinced Harlan to grow up to use his abilities for evil means?

However it happens, all signs seem to point to Harlan replacing The Handler as the show’s Big Bad.
