DC Fandome: Major fan-favorite comic book characters to join Titans Season 3
By Monita Mohan
Fans waiting for Titans Season 3 have much to be excited about. There are so many fan favourite characters headed to our screens.
Big news out of DC FanDome! During the Titans Season 3 panel featuring the cast and executive producer Greg Walker, it was revealed that fan-favorite comic book characters will be arriving on the DC Universe show next season.
Production on Season 3 was halted due to the pandemic but looks like the showrunners already have their plans in place for the show’s return.
We know that Damaris Lewis’ Blackfire will be battling with the Titans, though it’s possible that she and her sister Starfire (Anna Diop) may patch up by the end of the season. Well, from the sound of it, the Titans are going to need all the help they can get, because they’re up against some fierce villains in Season 3!
Titans Season 3: Jason Todd will become Red Hood
Everyone loves Jason Todd’s comic book transformation from the most hated Robin of all time into the beloved red sheep of the Bat-family, Red Hood. The character was voted to be killed off by DC’s fans way back in 1988’s ‘A Death in the Family. But, since the character’s return in Hush, Jason has regained his popularity.
Ever since Curran Walters was introduced as Jason Todd in Titans, viewers have been wondering when the character will adopt the Red Hood name. Now, it’s been confirmed that Jason will become Red Hood in Titans Season 3. He’s going to be one of the main villains of the season.
At the end of the show’s sophomore season, Jason was heartbroken by Rose Wilson/Ravager’s betrayal, and also his general disillusionment with his idol Dick Grayson/Nightwing (Brenton Thwaites) and the team. He didn’t participate in Donna Troy/ Wonder Girl’s (Conor Leslie) funeral and instead drove away as a lone wolf.
According to Greg Walker, Todd will be ‘the child that burns the village down’. Walters is excited to take on the new role but is aware of the expectation resting on his shoulders. According to the official press release shared by DC, Red Hood is obsessed with taking down his old team.
Red Hood began his comic book journey as a villain but went on to become a hero. In some iterations, Red Hood is also a member of the Titans, so perhaps at the end of Titans Season 3, Jason will overcome his hate and embrace his team.
Titans Season 3: Fan-favourites joining the show
Walker also mentioned that the Titans will be heading to Gotham City. This is Dick Grayson’s home, and we may meet Iain Glen’s Bruce Wayne again. The only snippet of Gotham City we’ve seen so far on the show has been a dream sequence from the Season 1 finale, and the Wayne Manor.
Another villain to enter the fray is Jonathan Crane. In the comic, Crane becomes the supervillain Scarecrow, and his abilities include creating fear toxins. Titans has delved into alternate realities through dream sequences, and it’s possible we will see even more of that through Scarecrow’s arc. We don’t know if Crane has already become Scarecrow, or whether we’ll see him transform in the villain.
As per the official press release, this is the character:
"Crane is a current inmate at Arkham Asylum and offers his services as a profiler and consultant for the Gotham City Police Department."
Fans will be especially excited to hear that Barbara Gordon has been confirmed as being part of the show. She’s Commissioner Barbara Gordon here, probably having stepped into the giant shoes of her father, James Gordon.
One hopes Barbara has a significant role to play since she’s such a popular character and has so many connections to the Bat-family. According to the official release, Barbara has a previous relationship with Dick, but she’s ‘wary’ of the Titans’ presence in her city.

Looks like Barbara has retired her Batgirl cape, or could she be moonlighting as the Bat? We’ll need to wait and see. It would have been nice to see the Oracle version of Barbara Gordon since characters with disabilities are so rarely seen in genre fiction. But hey, we are excited to see the character back on-screen again!
Barbara and Crane have not been cast as yet. Seems like the returning cast are Brenton Thwaites (Dick Grayson / Nightwing), Anna Diop (Kory Anders / Starfire), Teagan Croft (Rachel Roth / Raven), Ryan Potter (Garfield “Gar” Logan / Beast Boy), Curran Walters (Jason Todd / Robin 2.0 / Red Hood), Conor Leslie (Donna Troy / Wonder Girl), Chelsea Zhang (Rose Wilson), Joshua Orpin (Conner Kent), Alan Ritchson (Hank Hall / Hawk) and Minka Kelly (Dawn Granger / Dove).
We cannot wait for Titans Season 3! How excited are you to see these comic book characters come to the screen?
