New concept art at DC Fandome gave fans an unexpected first look at Michael Keaton’s return to the role of Batman in The Flash.

As the DCEU continues to grow with newer innovative concepts, one of the most highly-anticipated offerings is one of its longest-awaited – and it may be the one to allow it to continue being creative. The Flash has been on the horizon for the longest of times and, after going through multiple directors and a lot of rescheduling, the film is finally set to arrive in 2022.

The upcoming film was recently in the headlines because it was revealed that legendary Batman actor Michael Keaton would be reprising his role from Tim Burton’s classic films Batman and Batman Returns. That’s right, he will be returning to the role of The Dark Knight in The Flash.

Some of the film’s crew appeared at DC FanDome alongside the Scarlet Speedster himself, Ezra Miller, to share some tidbits from the film. During said panel, director Andy Muschietti revealed some new concept art of Barry Allen’s new costume. However, one of those pieces of artwork featured an unexpected appearance from Michael Keaton’s Caped Crusader.

Check out the concept art below:

The second image features Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen preparing for battle alongside a version of the Dark Knight. That version, however, is clearly Michael Keaton’s classic iteration as the costume, cowl and emblem are identical to his appearance in the original 1989 film.

It was recently confirmed that Keaton would be wearing the Batman costume in The Flash, so does this new concept art confirm that he will be donning the exact same one from the first of his two films?

Muschietti recently confirmed that both he and the DCEU’s Batman, Ben Affleck, will have “substantial” roles in the film.
