Reign of the Cyborg Supermen

Now for a non-origin related story because man, it really feels that a lot of great Supergirl stories are origin stories. Reign of the Cyborg Supermen though is the first arc of the most recent series and really helps to kick off the modern update of the character that she needed. It combines much of the classic Supergirl elements, such as her still being a teenager, with some of the more recent additions to the series, such as her relationship with the DEO.

While these elements are present within the story as a way to attract new readers, this arc is so much more than that. This is a story with a lot of heart and a fantastic characterization of Kara. She’s young and lonely, just looking for a place to belong, much like most teenagers, but that’s where this story really shines though.

She gets the chance to get everything that she loves back in this story. She sees where she belongs and, instead of immediately choosing that, she has a great moral debate with herself about where to revert back to the past or look toward the future.

This is a great, emotionally-driven story that also has some great action, mixed with some nice tiny horror elements toward the end of the arc.
