The Opening Scene

There is probably no better way to open this list than with, well, the opener. Because holy cow, what an opener!

An opening scene of anything – film, TV show, or otherwise – needs to set the tone and stage for the story we are about to witness in a way that demands our attention and (hopefully) keeps us in its grasp from start to finish. The first moments of season 2 prior to the opening credits roll does exactly that.

There was already intrigue in seeing each of our favorite siblings, one by one, (literally) fall into the 1960s, but things truly kicked off with a bang (pun intended) when we saw Five fall face first into what appears to be a nuclear war.

Not only are we as an audience beyond intrigued, but it’s exciting to see a team we watched last season at each other’s throats (no pun intended; sorry Vanya) every step of the way finally work in unison with all of their powers on full display. Knowing this is the future we’re staring at, we’re immediately hooked into wanting to find out what caused this war and how The Umbrella Academy all get back on the same page. Brilliant start to the season.
