Marvel Studios president and Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige has released a statement, paying tribute to Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman following his death.

Chadwick Boseman’s untimely death understandably caught the world off-guard on Friday night. The beloved actor, best known for portraying the titular superhero in the groundbreaking Black Panther in 2018, passed away at the age of 43 following a four-year battle with cancer.

Boseman’s Marvel Cinematic Universe colleagues have been posting touching moments of him, with Avengers stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Don Cheadle and Brie Larson leading the tributes to their late friend, sharing emotional messages of what it was like working with the esteemed actor.

Now, Marvel Studios president and Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige has issued a statement, speaking about how the actor impacted the MCU while paying tribute to his legacy. He stated:

"“Chadwick’s passing is absolutely devastating. He was our T’Challa, our Black Panther, and our dear friend. Each time he stepped on set, he radiated charisma and joy, and each time he appeared on screen, he created something truly indelible. He embodied a lot of amazing people in his work, and nobody was better at bringing great men to life. He was as smart and kind and powerful and strong as any person he portrayed. Now he takes his place alongside them as an icon for the ages. The Marvel Studios family deeply mourns his loss, and we are grieving tonight with his family.”"

Fans have shown their unwavering support, paying tribute to him by tweeting touching messages about what Boseman meant to them and how he greatly impacted their lives through his performance.

Boseman first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016 when T’Challa made his debut in Captain America: Civil War. He would then reprise the role in the critically-acclaimed – and Academy Award-nominated – solo offering Black Panther – in which he officially became the titular hero. He would then return for Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame – playing a pivotal role in the former.

He made an unforgettable impact on the world through his incredible performance and there’s no doubt that he changed the world in the process, paving the way for more diversity in both the MCU and superhero movies in general. He will be greatly missed, but it goes without saying that he will never be forgotten.

Rest well, King.
