Personality

Some heroes don’t have as interesting a life as others. How movies, TV shows and comic books tend to combat this is by adding other characters to their story.

While this writer loves everything about Steve Rogers, his story isn’t for everyone. To make up for that, interesting supporting characters like Sam Wilson, Black Widow, Bucky Barnes and Peggy Carter were added to his story. The same can be said for Cyclops or Cable. They don’t have personalities that moviegoers will be automatically drawn to on their own (at least not in the beginning, anyway).

This wouldn’t necessarily be the case for Jessica Drew or Gwen Stacy as both of them have personality to spare.

Gwen plays drums in a group called the Mary Janes (guess who the lead singer is). She also has that Spider-Person humor that we’ve grown to love. Since she’s the daughter of NYPD Chief George Stacy, she has a lot of detective smarts – something Peter Parker doesn’t. Living with a father on the police force molded her personality. It also made her a better hero.

Jessica Drew is something else all together. She’s a smart-alec in a different way in that she’s more cynical than joking. It’s probably due to her experience as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., Hydra, and S.W.O.R.D. Everything that she’s done with those groups added to the person and hero she’s become – that’s on top of being abducted by the Skrulls and made to be the face of their invasion.

Both of these ladies have very engaging personalities so for a Sony or MCU movie to work, it would need to showcase that.
