Pretty Little Liars to make unexpected return from Riverdale creator; Crossover coming?
Pretty Little Liars is getting a reboot and Riverdale’s creator Roberto Agiurre-Sacasa is the one that is making it happen. Is his TV universe growing?
It’s only been three years since the pop-culture phenomenon that was Pretty Little Liars came to an end, but it’s set to make an unexpected return to screens in the future. As revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, the series is set to be rebooted by Warner Bros. TV with the creator of modern pop-culture phenomenon Riverdale overseeing it.
The original show ran for seven seasons on Freeform and developed a large and devoted fanbase. It concluded back in 2017, which is why the news of a reboot is rather shocking. What separates this upcoming one from its predecessor, however, is the fact that it will reportedly focus on a new story with new characters.
Will this Pretty Little Liars series connect to Riverdale?
Though no network is attached to the show thus yet, it’s rumored that HBO Max is the most likely place for it considering its backed by Warner Media, but in spite of where it goes, it does leave us wondering if it will be connected to Riverdale somehow?

Aguirre-Sacasa has built a shared universe out of Archie Comics shows as both Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and The CW’s Katy Keene (starring PLL‘s Lucy Hale) were created by him as well. Though the former was loosely tied to Riverdale – a loose spin-off without being directly tied to it – the latter was a direct spin-off set in New York City two years in the future. Unfortunately, both have since been cancelled by their respective networks.
The question is: Will this Pretty Little Liars reboot cross over with Riverdale? Granted, the show won’t contain any Archie Comics characters, but who’s to say that will prevent it from happening? Aguirre-Sacasa specializes in successful teen dramas and Riverdale has been repeatedly compared to the original Pretty Little Liars since it first began in 2017.
Could this be the chance for the two of them to give us the crossover we never expected?
