By Mark Lynch
Marvel Comics Empyre’ was a game-changer and these particular moments will be important in the future.
Comic book news can come at you fast. You could be reading a random comic book and the contents could end up affecting the very ground on which the canon universe is built.
That’s no exaggeration. We’ve seen a deal with Mephisto in Spider-Man: One More Day cause everyone to forget who he is and we’re still dealing with the effects of that thirteen years later.
Recently, Marvel Comics had their own universe altering event called Empyre. There are five moments in particular that are going to rock the universe for years to come.
Thor invokes his mother’s power
Marvel Comic: Empyre: Fallout Fantastic Four No. 1
Thor is the Son of Odin and raised by his mother Frigga. However, Frigga is not his biological mother. He was born of the Goddess of the Earth Gaea. He rarely speaks of her, but she is his maternal mother. During Empyre, Thor ventured off to find a way to help defeat the Cotati. On his journey, he rediscovered an ability locked inside of him. He used the powers of his mother Gaea. Something that helped turn the tide in the war.
Why is this important?
With the help of Franklin and Susan Richards, Thor brought the Cotati to a barren planet. While there, he used the last of Gaea’s power to bring vegetation to their new world. This will be a mistake. While some the Cotati looked happy, their leader Sequoia will want revenge. It may take a few years, but we’ll see him again and he’ll bring war with him.
