Abigail Brand quits Alpha Flight

Marvel Comic: Empyre: Aftermath Avengers Issue No. 1

After the events of Empyre, everyone was happy. The Cotati were defeated, Hulking and Wiccan got married in front of all of their friends and peers, and the universe was saved. Despite everyone’s happiness, Abigail Brand was far from ecstatic. Brand (former members of S.W.O.R.D. and Alpha Flight) had a conversation with Captain Marvel. Brand was so furious that she lit her hands with her powers and slapped Danvers in the face. She said that she should have been informed of the Cotati. Brand is right. She then quit Alpha Flight saying that it was useless and simply doesn’t work.

Why is this important?

Abigail quitting was big, but what happened at the end of the issue was even bigger. We see the future and it’s Hulkling, Captain Glory, and multiple Skrull and Kree warriors bloody and beaten. Standing over them was Abigail Brand. Behind her was her new team (who we can’t identify). Is Abigail Brand a new enemy or was this in response to something they did? Will Beast lend a hand? He loves Abigail and Hank McCoy is known for making questionable decisions. Will he be part of Abigail Brand’s team? Or will he turn her down and ruin their friendship?
