Stargirl season 2 will feature a host of new villains, but during DC FanDome it was confirmed that one character would be making an unexpected return.

Stargirl has been one of this year’s most exciting new shows. The DC Universe series received critical acclaim and praise from fans who absolutely adored everything Courtney Whitmore’s (Brec Bassinger) journey as the Star-Spangled Girl had to offer. Needless to say fans are excited for Stargirl season 2.

Geoff Johns and some of the cast gathered at DC FanDome for a special virtual panel that gave fans an insight into what to expect from the show’s second season. During that panel, Johns discussed how Eclipso would play into the second season as a villain, but he also confirmed that we haven’t seen the last of Solomon Grundy, adding that he was “excited for people to see more Grundy” because he’s “not gone just yet.”

Solomon Grundy played a major role in the first season as he was a crucial part of Rick Tyler/Hourman’s (Cameron Gellman) character arc. Responsible for the deaths of Rick’s parents, he became a target for the young Hourman who eventually ended up clashing with him in the season finale.

In spite of Grundy’s overpowering size, he was already weakened by Pat/S.T.R.I.P.E. and ultimately refused to fight back, so Rick defeated him rather easily. However, he then showed him mercy and chose not to kill him, instead sparing his life and telling him to go. It seems that he realized he was just being controlled by the Injustice Society too.

That said, it did seem like a definitive end to the arc – Rick overcame his anger and chose not to kill – so it’s surprising to hear that Grundy will be back in Stargirl season 2.

However, we’re excited to see how he plays into it and if this will ultimately lead to any kind of redemption for him.
