Here’s why Harley Quinn hasn’t been renewed for a third season yet
Harley Quinn was a major success for the DC Universe, but it has yet to be renewed for a third season by HBO Max. Now we know why.
Harley Quinn has quickly become one of the most beloved animated series of our generation. The DC Universe show debuted in October of last year and quickly became a huge success, with critics applauding its unfiltered approach, witty charm and exploration of the titular character.
It reached even greater heights of critical and fan approval with its second season – which saw Harley and Poison Ivy finally admit their true feelings to each other and venture off into the sunset in Thelma and Louise fashion. And yet, there still hasn’t been any word on whether or not it has been renewed for a third season.
Now, however, there is an update.
Why Harley Quinn season 3 has yet to be confirmed
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harley Quinn has indeed picked up steam since its first and second seasons were added to HBO Max’s line-up. However, as it was recently confirmed that all of the DC Universe’s active programming would migrate to HBO Max – Stargirl aside which will instead move to The CW – the fate of the show is now in the WarnerMedia streamer’s hands.

The reason that is has yet to be renewed for a third season is reportedly down to the fact that renewal negotiations hinge on it getting a new budget – something which has been delayed by the executive switch-up behind-the-scenes.
It was recently reported ahead of DC FanDome that fellow DC Universe series Doom Patrol has been renewed for a third season by HBO Max, meaning that it will now stream there instead (after it shared streaming rights with the DCU during the second season).
Now, we just have to wait and see if Harley Quinn will get the third season that it too rightfully deserves.
