8 Batman comic book stories that deserve an animated movie
By Mark Lynch
Tom King’s run
After Scott Snyder left, we wondered what was next. for Batman Who could carry the shining torch for Batman that Snyder lit? Then Tom King took the torch and ran with it better than we could have hoped.
He created new stories that broke Batman down. More importantly, it broke Bruce Wayne. Every villain he’s fought has injured him, some of them have broken him physically; only a handful of them have broken the man behind the mask. Bane, however, accomplished that, teaming up with Thomas Wayne from the Flashpoint series, destroying Bruce’s life, and taking over Gotham. That’s an amazing feat.
The Tom King run also covers I am Gotham that introduced a new hero/villain, the Catwoman tale that’s heartwarming and later heartbreaking, The War of Jokes and Riddles where Batman tells Selina a story of a horrible time in Gotham that leads to a dark secret and introduces Kiteman (Hell yeah), and City of Bane where we see the death of Alfred.
All of these stories could be done in a series of movies told over an extended period of time. Considering how it flowed, each part would be highly anticipated, each ending with cliffhangers that lead to an eventual happy ending in the final installment.
If you know Bruce Wayne, you understand that happy endings aren’t something that happens to him often. But this one would be well-earned.
