Death of the Family

Following the New 52 Batman theme, we come to Death of the Family (not to be confused with Death in the Family which is the story of how Jason Todd was captured and tortured by the Joker). Coincidentally, Death of the Family involves the Joker as well. In this story, Joker is slightly crazier than normal – so much so that he takes his face that was ripped off and has it over his skinless face. He later captures the entire Bat-Family and brings them to the Bat-Cave and makes it appear as if he’s ripped their faces off.

Death of the Family isn’t just another dark Batman story. Here, we see Joker use his particularly advanced skills of persuasion and depravity. During this series, he tricked Batman, Two-Face, Penguin and even Riddler. This is Joker at his best… and worst. The kind of Joker that fans love. He’s crazy and determined. And if Joker is at his best, that means Batman is as well.

Unfortunately, Death of the Family doesn’t have a happy ending. Bruce loses the trust of his Damian, Jason, Barbara, Tim, and Dick. Their relationship was damaged. Yes, it was later repaired, but this was another example of how Batman not trusting his family hurts more than helps.

As you can probably tell, this would make one heck of an animated movie.
