Alfred stays dead

Alfred was infamously killed in the City of Bane arc. Bane snapped his neck. No one saw this coming and few were convinced that it actually happened. We all assumed that it was some sort of illusion or not the real Alfred. Alas, we were wrong. Bane really killed Bruce’s father.

This changed the way Batman approached life and ushered in a new era for the Caped Crusader. With Joker bringing Alfred back from the dead, people may have wondered what was next. Well, this writer will tell you; Alfred Pennyworth will remain dead.

It would be easy to take Alfred and bring him back. Bruce knows more than a few people who could fix him but this isn’t what Alfred would want. Alfred wants what’s best for his son. The vision Bruce had about Alfred proved that. Also, not resurrecting Alfred helps destroy the narrative that no one in comic books stays dead. If that isn’t reason enough, the idea of a new Batman without Alfred will lead to new ways of thinking for the entire Bat-Family.

They’ll have to rely on themselves and continue to live without him. It may seem like this only affects Bruce, but everyone in the Bat-Family is adjusting to this. Maybe Damian more than anyone. He’s needed Alfred a lot. Bruce isn’t the most affectionate person and even Damian needs a hug.
