Following recent changes by Disney, take a look at the updated Marvel movie release schedule for 2021 with a look at what MCU movies are planned.

2020 will go down as the year that almost was for Marvel.

After the groundbreaking conclusion to the Stage 3 of Marvel Cinematic Universe with Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man Far From Home, 2020 looked to give fans the chance to see one of their favorite Avengers in action via her first solo film with the release of Black Widow, while also getting the chance to meet the MCU’s newest heroes through the introduction of the Eternals.

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s effect on the movie industry, Marvel was forced to reevaluate its release plans. Ultimately, the decision was made to move the studios’ two slated releases, Black Widow and Eternals, to 2021 where they’ll join Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in making up the studios’ 2021 line-up.

While it is possible Marvel could be forced to adjust its scheduling plans, here’s what we know so far about the current films on the 2021 Marvel movie release schedule!

2021 Marvel movie release schedule: Black Widow release date

Originally, Black Widow was slated to premiere May 1, 2020; however, due to movie theater closures, Marvel shifted the film’s release to Nov. 6, 2020, with the hope that theaters would be reopened by the film’s tentative release date.

Unfortunately, as of September 2020, many theaters across the globe remain closed with the others that have opened operating below capacity in order to implement safety protocols. For these reasons and out of concern over the safety of its fans, Marvel delayed Black Widow a second time in setting a new release date for summer 2021.

Barring any additional changes, Black Widow will open in theaters on Friday, May 7, 2021.

2021 Marvel movie release schedule: Eternals release date

Much like Black Widow, Marvel’s Eternals was originally slated to open in theaters as part of Marvel’s 2020 slate. Originally, the hope was for the film to open in theaters on Nov. 6, 2020, which would have made the film a perfect fall release for the brand.

After being moved to Feb. 12, 2021, Marvel has now shifted Eternals to Nov. 5, 2021 — a move that seems to be a direct result of the need to delay Black Widow.

2021 Marvel movie release schedule: Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings release date

Unlike Black Widow and Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was always envisioned to be part of Marvel’s 2021 schedule. However, due to Black Widow‘s delay, the film has been shifted by back a few months.

Originally set to open on May 7, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is now scheduled to open on July 9, 2021 — just after the July 4 holiday, which falls on a Sunday in 2021.
