The Flash season 7: Major character to return in shock twist; is the multiverse coming with him?
The Flash season 7 is on the horizon and it seems that we’ll be seeing the unexpected return of a beloved speedster.
The Flash season 7 was supposed to begin airing on our TV screens at some point within the next month. However, the outbreak of the novel coronavirus stifled those plans. That said, the Arrowverse show is set to resume production very soon with a planned TV return in January 2021 and it seems like we’ll be seeing the unexpected comeback of a much-loved character.
John Wesley Shipp, who portrayed the original Flash/Barry Allen on the classic 1990s TV series, recently spoke to Den of Geek for the iconic show’s 30th anniversary. When asked if we’d see him play the original Flash again (after the character seemingly perished in Arrowverse crossover Crisis On Infinite Earths), he revealed that he’s happy where he left the character. That doesn’t mean we won’t see the actor on the show again, however, as he added:
"“I feel in a good place with Barry, the character who interests me now is Jay.”"
He also revealed that we haven’t seen the last of the veteran speedster Jay Garrick and that there are plans for him to make a comeback in the show’s seventh season.
"“I know Jay Garrick is coming back to the CW show, but they were supposed to be at a further point in the story… They didn’t get to play out the end of season six because of COVID as we know, so they’ve got to tie up some things… Eric Wallace has said that he does want to talk to me about some ideas about Jay Garrick going forward.”"
How can Jay Garrick return in The Flash season 7?
The return of Jay Garrick will undoubtedly leave fans with a smile on their face. The Crimson Comet has been recurring presence on the show since season 2 and it’s always great to see John Wesley Shipp playing the heroic role.

That being said, his return is quite puzzling as Jay was a resident of Earth-3 – and as fans of the Arrowverse know, the Crisis wiped out the original multiverse. The question is, of course, how could he return?
That’s where things get really intriguing. Was Jay and parts of his earth moved to Earth-Prime (much like Supergirl‘s Earth-38) or was it simply restored as part of the new multiverse (much like Titans and Doom Patrol‘s respective earths were). If it’s the latter, Jay’s return could very well explain to the Arrowverse regulars that, contrary to what they believe, the multiverse is still very much alive.
Alongside Jay Garrick, Shipp has portrayed Henry Allen and Earth-90 Flash throughout his time in the Arrowverse and you can rest assured that fans will be excited to see him return once again.
